5th Greek Raw Materials Community Dialogue - RC Greece

5th Greek Raw Materials Community Dialogue

04/11/2020

Flat vs spherical earth, Linear vs Circular economy: Let’s go… round again!

“A circular economy is a systemic approach to economic development designed to benefit businesses, society, and the environment. In contrast to the ‘take-make-waste’ linear model, a circular economy is regenerative by design and aims to gradually decouple growth from the consumption of finite resources”- Ellen Mc Arthur Foundation

The transition to a more circular economy has been identified as the opportunity for Europe, to generate new and sustainable competitive advantages. The European Commission is undertaking a range of brave actions to support the move to a more circular economy. These are defined in the new Circular Economy Action Plan released on Mar 11th 2020 and cover the cycle from production and consumption, to waste management and the market for secondary raw materials. In a circular economy, the value of products and materials is maintained for as long as possible and waste and resource use are minimised. This can contribute to innovation, growth and job creation.

The raw materials sector is a major strength and a corner stone for this transition, with the relevant industrial landscape being one of the backbones of the European economy. Raw Materials and Circular Societies Lighthouse has set a framework of clear objectives, aiming to maintain a reliable and sustainable supply and management of raw materials and, ultimately, ensure the gradual and successful integration of the circular economy model.

The Greek RM ecosystem is interested and willing to engage in a meaningful dialogue that will approach CE policy status, identify research and innovation initiatives and present best practices, both in Greece and Europe. In this scope, RIS Hub Greece is pleased to invite you to the 5th Greek Raw Materials Community Dialogue, scheduled to take place on- line. This year’s event is dedicated to Circular Economy and has invited experts of the Greek and European RM community to offer their insight and inspire the Greek RM ecosystem to:

  • invest on sustainable development
  • become a key player in the implementation of European initiatives and strategies, connected to the circular transformation of the European economy

The 5th Greek Raw Materials Community Dialogue will be followed, back-to-back, by a technical and problem-solving workshop on extractive waste management and characterization.
