The main objective of the EIT is to improve sustainable growth and competitiveness in Europe by improving the innovation capacity of the EU Member States.

Greece is part of the East and Southern‐East Europe (ESEE) region and is a “moderate” innovator, according to the European Innovation Scoreboard, and lacks innovation capacity in various categories, including raw materials and the corresponding manufacturing sectors.

Greece has significant mineral resources in terms of quality, quantity and variety of ores and minerals. The Greek Raw Materials Sector is important for the country’s economic activity and accounts, together with the corresponding manufacturing sector, for 3‐5% of the GDP.

The main objective of the RIS Hub Greece is to bring together the relevant actors, serving as an “interaction point” between the Greek Raw Materials sector and the EIT RawMaterials Community, aiming to increase the competitiveness and foster innovation in the sector in Greece as well as in the neighboring countries.
