MONOLITHOS presentation
for EIT RawMaterials HUB – RIS Hub Greece

MONOLITHOS is an independent SME, operating according to EU standards and has a twenty-year experience in the manufacturing, regenerating, and recycling of catalytic converters. The company’s Business Network is based on 1,025 Professional Automotive Workshop Clients for aftermarket products and 1,335 Suppliers of spent automotive catalysts for recycling.

While having a great percentage of the Greek market, more than 37% of its annual turnover is coming from exports (mainly to Germany).

MONOLITHOS- Catalytic Converters - Recycling - Renovating

Over the years, MONOLITHOS has expanded its product portfolio and currently manufactures over 300 different catalytic converters and diesel particulate filters (DPFs) for all vehicle makes and models. The Direct-fit catalytic converters use either ceramic honeycomb or a high flow metallic substrate and are available with 2 years or 80,000 km warranty and EU homologation. The Diesel Particulate Filters (DPFs) incorporate precious metals in order to have catalytic activity and their honeycomb is either conventional cordierite or novel Silicon Carbide (SiC). In addition, the company manufactures and regenerates catalytic converters and diesel particulate filters for heavy duty mobile applications (e.g. off-road construction machines and trucks/buses) and for marine applications (e.g. ships). Except from Catalytic Converters and Particulate Filters, the product portfolio also includes Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCRs) devices for emission reduction of Euro VI heavy duty applications (more than 500 bhp).

MONOLITHOS produces Catalytic Converters and Diesel Particulate Filters (DPFs) for all vehicles and models.

The company’s office is located in Athens and its premises include a production facility located near the centre of Athens (Ak. Platonos), as well as a storage facility in the city of Thessaloniki (in the north of Greece). The company’s supply network includes a cost-effective logistics system and an optimized collection network for spent catalytic converters, covering the whole Greek territory, islands included. Furthermore, for the purposes of pre-processing of the automotive spent catalytic converters, after their storing and sorting (ceramic – metallic), a de-canning facility has been acquired with the capability of treating 40.000 converters per year.

Through its R&D activities, MONOLITHOS holds a wide experience in developing catalytic materials for various applications. Focusing on the field of automotive catalysis, polymetallic copper based nano-catalysts impregnated in rare earths carriers have been developed for enhancing the Oxygen Storage Capacity of the catalyst. In addition, the company has got a European Patent for its PROMETHEUS Catalyst (https://prometheus-catalysts.eu/), which is a novel, low-cost copper-based trimetallic nano-catalyst, impregnated in rare earth carrier.

PROMETHEUS, after having passed successfully the prototyping phase was introduced in the automotive aftermarket. The strong innovative character of the company in the field of catalytic materials, has led to its participation in 8 KIC actions initiated from EIT Raw Materials, through which it has obtained funding to carry out innovative tasks towards the development and commercialisation of breakthrough technologies and products.
